Meet the Team: Felix Jung

For the last six months, Felix has been supporting Liquid Wind as a Thesis Intern and he recently graduated with a European M.Sc in Sustainable Energy System Management. For his Thesis project, Felix conducted a Life Cycle Analysis of eMethanol and proved that it provides a sustainable alternative to fossil fuels.

We are delighted that Felix will continue to work with Liquid Wind as our Sustainability & Planning Specialist.

What inspired you to join Liquid Wind for your Internship?

I was interested to further my understanding of Sustainable Energy Management and apply this in a real business context. I searched for suitable companies on LinkedIn and came across Liquid Wind. The company stood out for me, with its ambitious goal to accelerate carbon neutral transportation using the emerging concept of electro-fuel. I was excited to learn more and delighted to join the passionate team.

Congratulations on your Masters. Can you tell us a bit about your Thesis project?

I wanted to link my interest in sustainability and academic knowledge with a topic that was relevant for Liquid Wind, to ensure my thesis would add value. Liquid Wind were looking for reliable and accurate information about green methanol as a marine fuel, but there was a gap in the scientific information available. The Life Cycle Analysis of green methanol was a win-win, providing valuable information for Liquid Wind and a really interesting challenge for me to delve into. And we were able to show that green methanol will reduce carbon emissions by 94% versus the standard Marine Fuel, HFO.

What is it like working at Liquid Wind?

The first six months have been very interesting and instructive. Liquid Wind has flat hierarchies and everyone’s ideas are valued. I combined writing my thesis with an internship, which means that I spent half of my time contributing directly to key business projects, such as researching business opportunities and analysing the renewable fuel market. This provided valuable experience and insight into the company.

Writing my thesis at Liquid Wind was a very good decision. Tuya, Head of Finance, was my Supervisor and did an amazing job, helping me to stay focused within my project. My topic was quite complex, and I appreciate the help I got from the Liquid Wind team, as well as from my supervising professor at my university.

I am originally from Germany, so I am also enjoying life in Gothenburg - the parks, weekend trips to the islands, the Swedish mentality and of course Fika.

You recently started as full-time employee at Liquid Wind. Can you tell us a bit about your role as Sustainability & Planning Specialist?

I am very excited to continue being a part of Liquid Wind and grateful for the opportunity. It is a fantastic team with a unique mission. In my new position, I will focus on developing a sustainability tracking system to provide transparency and proof of origin for green methanol to our customers and ensure added value.

In addition, I will be responsible for managing the FlagshipONE (our first facility) project plan, ensuring it is up-to-date as the project progresses. I will also continue to update the Life Cycle Analysis, in line with new regulations and developments.
