FlagshipONE: A pioneering eFuel Facility
FlagshipONE in Örnsköldsvik is Liquid Wind’s first commercial-scale eFuel facility project. It was acquired from Liquid Wind by the Danish energy company Ørsted in late 2022 and is Europe’s largest project of its kind to have reached final investment decision (FID) in Europe.
Ørsted is now building the project in partnership with the EU Catalyst Partnership, which includes Breakthrough Energy Catalyst, the premier investment platform for climate technologies that reduce emissions, the European Investment Bank, the world’s largest multilateral financial institution, and the European Commission.
In addition, FlagshipONE has received support from Klimatklivet through the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency. Administered by the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency, Klimatklivet supports investments that reduce emissions of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases. The funds invested are intended to achieve the greatest possible reduction in emissions per Swedish crown invested.
Integration with Övik Energi AB
The eFuel facility will be connected with the municipal energy company Övik Energi AB’s cogeneration plant Hörneborgsverket. The cogeneration plant uses renewable biogenic fuels to produce electricity and steam for industrial use and heat for homes and buildings in Örnsköldsvik. Right next to the plant, there is a port facility, offering access to storage and offloading of liquid fuels for ships. The plant will be operational in 2025 and will produce 50,000 tonnes of eFuel per year.
